Volvo S90 vs. The Competition

The Volvo S90 vs The Competition

Who Has the More Luxurious and Highly-Regarded Sedan to Meet all of Connecticut's Needs?

There are so many sedans out there, which one is right for you? Well, when it comes to the luxury sedans that Volvo provides, there really is no wrong answer. The Volvo S90 is definitely a popular and sought-after sedan because of all the space, safety, efficiency and entertainment that it provides. A Volvo S90 is a great gift for you to show off to your friends and it makes for an excellent family car as well. With a Volvo S90 sedan, you'll have the right sedan with all of the "right stuff" at your fingertips and you'll enjoy a memorable and fun driving experienced every time you get behind the wheel! However, you might want more proof of all that this sedan can do for you, rightfully so, which is why we here at Connecticut's Own Volvo went ahead and researched how the Volvo S90 stacks up against a couple other competitors in its class: the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Infinity Q70. While both of these sedans are worthy challengers, you'll find that our Volvo sedan gives you considerably more for less!

The Volvo S90 vs. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class

You might not expect a luxury sedan to have so much practicality and efficiency, but the Volvo S90 is not your typical sedan model, as you'll see with our head-to-head review of its first challenger: the Mercedes-Benz E-Class!

  • When it comes to starting prices, the Volvo S90 begins at the much lower MSRP of $48,100, leaving you with options and more wiggle-room for upgrades to the sedan. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class begins at a starting price of $52,950 which is almost $5,000 more than the Volvo S90.
  • The engine of the Volvo S90 gives you a lot more than you would expect from a luxury sedan, blending together powertrain and fuel efficiency. This inline four-cylinder (I4) engine generates 250 horsepower and gains an EPA-estimated 24 miles per gallon in the city and 34 miles per gallon on the highway. Whereas, the I4 engine of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class generates 241 horsepower and gains 22 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highway.
  • While both of these sedans are fairly equally matched where trunk space is concerned, the Volvo S90 gives you considerably more interior space for your passengers to enjoy with almost 102 cubic feet of passenger volume. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class features about 98 cubic feet of passenger volume.
  • When it comes to providing some additional comfort to your passengers in the backseat, the Volvo S90 comes available with rear dual-zone climate control sop both sides of the backseats can control their own temperature just like you. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class features only single-zone rear climate control, which is available in the base trim, but not standard.
  • Finally, the sound system of the Volvo S90 has a lot more fun and entertaining applications to offer, even in the base trim level. The available Bowers & Wilkins 19-speaker sound system features Gracenote™, Pandora®, Spotify®, Stitcher® and TuneIn™. These apps are unavailable on the base trim level of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Must be upgraded with a higher trim level.

The Volvo S90 vs The Infinity Q70

Infinity is one brand that's known for its speed and style, which makes the Q70 sedan another worthy challenger to the Volvo S90. However, once again, this sedan falls short of our Volvo sedan in a lot of important ways. You deserve to have the utmost comfort, convenience and safety for your family, so you won't be disappointed with the Volvo S90.

  • The starting price of the Infinity Q70 is considerably lower than that of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, but it is still outmatched by the $48,100 MSRP of the Volvo S90. The Infinity Q70 starts out at $50,300, which is still $2,200 higher than the starting price of the Volvo S90.
  • While the engine of the Infinity Q70 does have more powertrain to offer, the Volvo S90 makes the difference up in savings by providing fewer stops at the pump, thanks to its EPA-estimated 24 miles per gallon in the city and 34 miles per gallon on the highway. The engine of the Infinity Q70 gains an EPA-estimated 18 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway.
  • The Infinity Q70 does not have the option for single or dual-zone rear air conditioning for the backseat passengers to enjoy, in its base trim level; it is instead a luxury feature that must be added with an upgrade to a higher trim. The Volvo S90 gives you the option in all its trim levels for rear dual-zone climate control.
  • The Volvo brand is known for providing a plethora of safety features on all of its sedan and SUV models, the Volvo S90 is certainly no exception. This sedan features front knee airbags, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors and Traffic Sign Recognition. These features are either absent from the base trim level of the Infinity Q70 or are absent from the sedan entirely.
  • Finally, the Volvo S90 received high accolades by well-established vehicle reviewers and made the list of Top 10 Luxury Cars by Autobytel in addition to being voted Best Fleet Value in America (for Luxury Cars) and the luxury car with the Lowest Cost to Own by Vincentric. Neither the Mercedes-Benz E-Class nor the Infinity Q70 received these accolades or placed on the list of Top 10 Luxury Cars.
